 Songs

A love of singing has always been strong in the Isle of Man. Collections of songs have been made at various times during the Isle of Man’s history.

The songs tell of important things in every day life on the Isle of Man from the sea and countryside to the little people and love. The songs that are sung are arranged by Ann Kissack from a variety of sources, some are from old collections of songs, some have recently written words to old tunes and some are new songs and words that have a traditional feel and style to them. A collection of the songs sung by Caarjyn Cooidjagh can be found on their new album Cronnane (see Releases). They can also be found on a cassette The Lighthouse

Recent research by Dr Fenella Bazin has unearthed a number of West Gallery songs sung in churches on the Isle of Man before the days of the Church organ. The choir sings a number of these also, these are nearly all in English and form the basis for an album soon to be released of West Gallery Music.
